Introducing the Committee
The United Nations Security Council (SC) is the UN’s principal body responsible for maintaining international peace and security. Comprising 15 member states—five permanent members with veto power and ten non-permanent members elected for two-year terms—the Council has the authority to make binding decisions, including imposing sanctions, authorizing peacekeeping missions, and taking action to prevent or resolve conflicts.
